    3. Onsight 5.11d/5.12a, V5ish; redpoint 5.12, v7ish
    4. minimum wage
    5. route setting is the product of a gym- i feel that any route setter should start at $12/hr and move up from there. given my current contributions to the gym i work at, i'd say I should be in the $15-17/hr range.

  9. 1. $10 per hour
    2. Climbing for 4 years, setting for 3.
    3. Onsight V5 Redpoint V7
    4. Minimum Wage ($7.50 I think)
    5. At least $12 per hour and a series of pay increases based on skill level, efficiency, etc. I think routesetting should reflect wages of similar trade and highly skilled jobs. I started as a construction laborer at $5 above minimum wage (totally an unskilled position doing grunt work). I started setting at minimum wage and still only make $2 per hour above it.

  13. 1) How much money do you get paid?

Generally $10/hr, though I occasionally do a "reset" for a few other local areas with climbing walls that pay $15/hr (but they are not actual climbing gyms, just gyms with small walls)

    2) How long have you been setting AND climbing?

    Climbing - 14 years
    Setting - 8 years

    3) What grade do you on-sight and what grade can you redpoint?

    Onsight - 12c, V7
    Redpoint - 13d, V10

    4) What rate did you start at?

Depends. Started in a different city where I was eventually paid $13/hr after a few years; current gym I'm at has a much smaller setting budget.

    5) What do you think you deserve and why?

Depends on so many factors; where am I living, what's the cost of living, how much money is the gym making? - if I am just working as a setter and do not have to do any management work or setting logistics I think $12/hr is good; I set routes at a very efficient pace and with a wide variety of styles (i.e. I feel just as confident setting a 12a techy arete as a 12a juggy steep route).

However, a larger part of my job is also now management with routesetting; I have 8 years experience as a coach and have set for many competitions and understand setting for redpoint comps vs. onsight comps and can manage gym logistics w/ setting (ordering holds, instructing new setters, dealing with stripped and damaged holds, setting up timetables to strip and reset). For that aspect of the job, I think $15-$18/hr is more realistic.

  14. 1) £15/hr
    2) 12 climbing/6 setting
    3) 7c & 7A+/8a+ & 7C+
    4) £6/hr
    5) I think £20/hr is a fair rate as this reflects that of a plasterer/plumber
    6) 15p/mile

  15. 1) $14/hr
    2) 3 setting, 6 climbing
    3) Onsight 11d, redpoint 12c
    4) $10.50/hr
    5) I think this Q is very dependant on cost of living wherever you are - should be a middle class job if you're full time imo.
    6) I'm a female, might be interesting to look at how setting $ differs male-female since female setters seem to be in demand...

  16. 1) $8/hr
    2) Climbing 14 years; setting 8 years
    3) Onsight V8/5.12d Redpoint V11/5.13c
    4) Free
    5) Setting is a unique skill, a combination of creative output and physical stamina. I definitely think setters deserve to make quite a bit more than minimum wage, if they are competent/good setters.

  17. 1) $19/ hour
    2) climbing 20 years, setting 19 years on and off.
    3) onsight V6, redpoint V8- V9
    4) $10/ hour
    5) to be willing to do the job I do part time for fun (Head Routesetter at a bouldering gym) as a full time job, I'd need $100k/year, which is obviously ridiculous. For someone in charge of multiple gyms though, I think $50k should be realistic, and the right person should be worth 75-100k.

  18. 1) How much money do you get paid?
    $9.50/Hour
    2) How long have you been setting AND climbing?
Setting 2 years climbing 6 years
    3) What grade do you on-sight and what grade can you redpoint?
    I can onsight 5.12b or v7, and redpoint 5.13a or v10
    4) What rate did you start at?
    $12 a boulder and $24 a route
    5) What do you think you deserve and why?

    2. Climbing 7, setting 5
    3. Onsight 12b/v6 red point 13b/v9
    4. Started on trade then went to minimum
    5. I don't deserve anything. No one does...as far as value I think a qualified setter with certs and indisposable experience should make 20/hr.

    5. Happy with my current pay rate. Love to do it full-time though!
    6. I'm the head setter at a popular gym and as far as I'm aware I'm the highest paid setter in Australia. Can't complain really, but I'm looking to get into a real career atm as lack of full-time work kinda means I'll never really own anything of substance.

  21. 1) How much money do you get paid?
18$/h as a chief setter for a gym
    $250-$300/day competition route setting

    2) How long have you been setting AND climbing?
14 years climbing 9 years setting

    3) What grade do you on-sight and what grade can you redpoint?
    V9/10 - V13/14 5.13 - 5.14

    4) What rate did you start at?
    11$

    5) What do you think you deserve and why?
30+$/h based on my position, setting knowledge and experience. Setting is a product that allows gyms to survive and make money, it should be most invested in aspect of the gym. Give route setters more money, it gives them more accountability and ultimately you will get better routes.

  22. 1) How much money do you get paid?

10.00 per hour recently promoted to head boulder area route setter, but raise hasn't been settled

    2) How long have you been setting AND climbing?
I started volunteer setting 2+ years ago
and started climbing seriously 3 years ago

    3) What grade do you on-sight and what grade can you redpoint?
    best os v5/6 11d/12a best rp v8 or 12b

    4) What rate did you start at?
half off a gym membership, then bumped to 8 per hr

    5) What do you think you deserve and why?
Honestly I think I deserve 20 per hr for setting.

In the boulder area I have calculated I save the gym about 500 dollars a reset in man hours, which I also believe I should get in the form of an expense account for the maintenance of the bouldering area.
